Delhi and Mumbai remain India's largest urban centres but Bengaluru is mounting a serious challenge to this duopoly having quickly closed the gap in the past decade and in fact pipping Mumbai in several parameters.

JOBS & SALARIES

In 10 years Delhi-NCR added twice the companies Mumbai did but Bengaluru growth was fastest among major metros.

In years since 2019 the city has led metros in creating EPF-registered employees.

Not just jobs Bengaluru pays better for most white- and blue-collar work. The base salary for software engineers in Bengaluru is 13%-33% higher than in other cities.

In 2018, Bengaluru overtook Delhi-NCR in paying the highest monthly salaries to blue-collar workers in just five years. Similarly Pune outdid Mumbai.

Delhi & Mumbai have more passport holders but India's IT city comfortably tops in percentage of population with a passport.

Traffic is a nightmare

One area where Bengaluru needs major improvement is traffic. Delhi fares better with wider roads and larger area but cruising on Mumbai roads is relatively easier.
