The first season of Arcane was groundbreaking in that it proved video game adaptations could work and quickly became a fan favorite. Marc Merrill creator of League of Legends said there were internal discussions about "approving five seasons" and earmarking funds for development but that this was not an indication of an ongoing commitment to the show. Co-creator Christian Linke also spoke about planned ending in an interview with 'Variety' confirming that the show was always intended to be a two-season story from its conception.

What brings an end to Arcane is not a cancellation by Netflix but a deliberate decision by the people behind it to end the story as it should be. Fans may mourn the loss but they will rest easy knowing that at the very least the final product was one to end on its own terms.
