Allegations of Political Interference Surface Against State-Led Organizations in Telangana

Telangana / Hyderabad :

Recent revelations have brought to light concerning allegations of political interference and misuse of public funds within state-led organizations in Telangana, including We-Hub and TS Innovation Cell (TSIC), during the previous government's tenure.

According to reports from Deccan Chronicle, former and current employees have come forward to share their experiences of politicization within these organizations, shedding light on instances where political motives superseded the intended objectives.

One former employee at We-Hub recounted an incident where employees were instructed to organize an event purportedly to address World Disability Day 2022, with the aim of improving the image of BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha amidst her involvement in a CBI investigation. Despite the absence of Kavitha, the event proceeded, raising questions about its relevance to the organization's mission.

Similarly, employees at TSIC recalled instances of political pressure, including being reprimanded for not voting as per the former CEO's instructions following the Telangana Assembly elections. It was alleged that public funds were misused for political purposes, with large sums transferred for events aimed at garnering support for the ruling party.

Concerns were also raised about the lack of transparency and accountability in decision-making processes, with approvals for fund transfers allegedly made over messaging platforms without proper documentation.

Deepthi Ravula, CEO of We-Hub, was accused of actively campaigning for the ruling party from the organization's premises and pressuring employees to align with political objectives. Despite these allegations, Ravula and other political appointees have reportedly refused to address concerns or initiate investigations into the matter.

Attempts to obtain responses from Deepthi Ravula and Shanta Thoutam, former chief innovation officer of TSIC, were unsuccessful, highlighting a lack of accountability from key figures implicated in the allegations.

The emergence of these allegations underscores the need for transparency, integrity, and non-partisanship within state-led organizations. It also raises questions about the proper utilization of public funds and the accountability of those in positions of authority.

As calls for accountability grow louder, it remains to be seen how authorities will address these allegations and ensure that state-led organizations uphold their mandate free from political interference.
