A train driver's quick thinking prevented a potentially serious accident late Friday night near Dibnapur railway station officials said.

The driver operating a freight train from Pilibhit to Bareilly spotted a large iron bar and broken concrete pieces obstructing the tracks and immediately applied the emergency brakes slowing the train before impact.

As the goods train from Pilibhit was making its way to Bareilly the driver noticed the obstruction on the track. Reacting quickly he applied the emergency brakes, preventing the train from derailing said Rajendra Singh a spokesperson for North Eastern Railway

While the train's engine sustained damage in the collision no one was injured. Authorities believe the debris was deliberately placed on the tracks.
