AAP MLA gets 2-year jail in '16 sacrilege case

A local court in Punjab on Saturday sentenced AAP MLA from Mehrauli in Delhi Naresh Yadav to two years imprisonment in the 2016 Malerkotla Quransacrilege case.

Under Section 295-A of IPC which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings Yadav has been sentenced to 24 months in prison and a fine of 5,000. Additionally under IPC Section 153A which pertains to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion

The judge said he had taken a lenient view in sentencing Yadav an advocate by profession who is a first-time offender with no criminal case pending against him.

On 25 June 2016 the Punjab police had registered a case against three accused -- Vijay Kumar of Jind in Haryana Nand Kishore Goldy and his son Gaurav of Pathankot in Punjab -- on a complaint by Mohammad Asraf.
